Digital Citizen and Digital Learning

A digital citizen to me, are people who use the internet regularly and effectively. A digital citizen is also someone who uses technology appropriately and in a responsible manner. What I have found is that becoming a digital citizen is one of the most important things when it comes to being a teacher. As a digital citizen, I would need to understand that I have to take full responsibility of what I put out into the internet world. Once I become aware of that, I become one step closer into becoming a better digital citizen. This could then be categorized as having a type of digital etiquette. This involves being appropriate by the type of websites that are used as well as whatever information that is collected from these websites, used in an opportune way.

When teaching students about becoming digital citizens, I will teach about digital ethics and how one should act when using the internet. This is especially important especially due to the fact that many students as well as classrooms are now becoming tech savvy and have lots of electronics coming in. Presently, students are using iPads in classrooms and bringing in laptops and tablets to help them with their work so understanding the rules of the internet is very important. This can then play into the aspect of digital learning. With digital learning, students will be able to grasp certain concepts a lot quicker and will be able to manoeuvre tasks with the help of digital technology. With digital learning, students will be able to learn more efficiently and will have the access of learning any time anywhere and will not be hindered by learning in just one place. With knowing this, teachers will then be able to leverage their time better and can therefore broaden students' knowledge and engage a much wider audience.
